“I didn’t need your help,” Sheridan spat, lips pulling back to reveal a snarl even as he leaned heavily against the tree.

“Full of yourself, aren’t you?” the female retorted, rolling her eyes. ”A hunter was on pack land. I eliminated him. The fact that he was he was hunting a half-assed omega is of no concern to me.”

”I’ve been killing hunters since before you were born.”

”And that’s served you so well, evidently.” Sharp azure eyes gave him a level look, ”I could smell burning flesh from a mile away.”

He winced at the reminder, acutely aware of the searing pain caused by silver bullets, the sharp bite of bark digging into his back, the tremble in his legs that betrayed weakness. His only blessing, if it could even be called that, was the fact that the bullets had made clean exits, burning through everything in his body; everything would heal eventually, if he could only hide somewhere and stay away. Unfortunately, it wasn’t that easy.

”The way I see it, you have two choices. You can join our pack, or I can kill you.” She stalked forward, every movement full of the predatory grace that could never be completely human. It was a fleeting thought through Sheridan’s mind, that her lupine form must be absolutely lovely. ”I’d love to see your face around more, but I’m all for the latter too.”

It was not even a choice, really. He had had absolutely no regard for his life for far too long, a sentiment that came with his age. Even so, this girl had saved his life, and thus he owed her. Such a price was not too high to pay, particularly until the time when he could return the favor. Sheridan watched her approach wearily, drawing himself up before he gave a sharp nod. The brilliant smile that broke out on her face made him blink in surprise. She stopped in front of him and offered a hand that was meant more to help him up than to be a sort of greeting. “The name’s Melisandre Fayne.”

”... Sheridan,” he conceded, before taking her up on her assistance. There was another stab of pain, which he promptly ignored, and then he was off, following cerise tresses to wherever they may take him.

He’s never looked back since.
